KUALA LUMPUR, Thurs. - The Malaysian Red Crescent Society today signed
an agreement with Tahan Insurance Malaysia Bhd to train the company's
staff on first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation under a programme
called "Partnership in Humanity".
Some 100 Tahan Insurance personnel, including its Rescue 33 roadside
assistance team and insurance agents, will be trained.
They will learn how to save lives, thus increasing the pool of trained
volunteers available for MRCS to call upon during emergencies.

The agreement was signed between MRCS national chairman Tunku Tan Sri
Shahriman Tunku Sulaiman and Tahan Insurance chairman Datuk Annuar Senawi
at Carcosa Seri Negara Today.
Tahan Insurance will contribute RM 50,000 towards the humanity programme
over five years. Its policy holders will also receive MRCS membership.
MRCS secretary-general Datuk Johan Shamsuddin said participant would
be taught basic first aid such as treating cuts and bruises, and CPR during
emergency situations.
Johan said the programme was a concept of partnership in service to the
community.
"It enables all MRCS partners to set up their own First Aid Unit
in every office, which complements the 'First Aider In Every Home' programme.
"It is aim at getting volunteers for MRCS programmes and encouraging
corporate companies to finance our activities and services," he said.
Johan added that it would also benefit society as these trained participants
from offices would be able to play a similar role at home.
At present, MRCS has 10 companies in its partnership programme including
the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, Nanyang Press, Tenaga Nasional Berhad
and Westport Holdings Sdn Bhd.
Tahan Insurance is the first insurance company to sign up.
"The partnership provides the opportunity for the company to be
a corporate citizen," said its deputy chief executive officer, Razidan
Ghazalli.
