Tahan Insurance Malaysia Berhad (Tahan Insurance) and Ipoh City Hall
jointly organized the 'Program Keceriaan Warga Kota Ipoh' today at the
Padang Ipoh in the Perak state capital. Held in conjunction with National
Insurance Day, the event was launched by YB Dato' Hajjah Mazidah Zakaria
, a member of the Perak State Exco and Chairman of the State Tourism,
Cultural and Women's Affairs Department.
The highlight of the day's proceedings was the presentation of a Group
Personal Accident Policy valued at RM2 million by Tahan Insurance to two
hundred Ipoh City Hall employees who had volunteered to participate in
a blood donation drive. In addition, Tahan Insurance also covered the
premiums for the policies that were presented to the participating donors.
Ipoh Datuk Bandar Datuk Haji Sarajuddin Haji Salleh received the certificates
on behalf of the city.
Turnouts of over five thousand people were expected for this celebration.
Spectators from all walks of life, including participants from both public
and private sectors, students and the general public of all ages, took
part in activities that included tai-chi, aerobic exercises and street
soccer.
The blood donations were quite timely in view of the current shortage
in blood banks throughout the country. It is no coincidence that Tahan
Insurance's corporate vision incorporates the two themes of wealth-creation
and health-foundation. The Company's concept of values extends to the
idea that corporations should reinvest not only financially in their industries,
but also in their communities.
As CEO Encik Razidan Ghazali put it, "The participation of Tahan
in today's events underpins our philosophy of becoming a responsible Corporate
Citizen, continually and actively promoting civic and social responsibility.
Towards this end, Tahan Insurance has been an active participant in the
Partners in Humanity programme that is initiated by the Red Crescent Society.
Moreover, being a member of the Life Insurance Assocation of Malaysia
(LIAM) and Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM), this all ties up with
their theme for 2003 of 'Caring for the Community'
Tahan Insurance employees enthusiastically involve themselves in activities
to inculcate into the social fabric a sense of togetherness and ownership
in the community's well-being. Tahan Insurance has been a constant presence
in these community outreach programmes, that include blood donation drives
and training courses covering areas such as Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation,
more commonly known as CPR. By taking the lead with such programmes, Tahan
Insurance has provided the impetus to empower and assist people throughout
the country, beginning in Sarawak and now reaching Perak, to improve their
awareness of their community responsibilities.
Meantime, in a further display of environmental consciousness, Tahan
Insurance also participated in the Wetlands Challenge 2003, organized
by Paya Indah Wetlands on the same day.
